Some Factors You Need to Know About Condenser Motor

Condenser motors are found installed in air conditioning systems that move outdoor air across the condensing coil in outdoor condenser/compressor unit. The air movement across the condensing coil transfers heat to outdoor air and lets high pressure or temperature refrigerant inside the condensing coil to condense from a gas back to a liquid refrigerant.

What’s The Purpose of the Condenser Fan Motor?

The condenser fan motor on the compressor unit comes from the need of transferring heat from the refrigerant system into outdoor air. The refrigerant gas is pumped from the indoor cooling coil through the outdoor compressor motor. As the compressor generates high pressure and temperature refrigerant gas, it needs to flow into the outdoor condensing coil (acting just like a car radiator with finned tubing). As the hot gas flows through the condensing coil, the outdoor condenser fan motor blows outdoor air across the hot condensing coil to cool the gases inside and turns it to liquid state while transferring the heat at the same time.

What’s the Difference Between a Condenser Fan Motor & A Blower Motor?

The blower motor is not an actual fan motor but is a centrifugal pump consisting of a wheel with radial slats spinning inside a housing. Centrifugal force pulls the air from the center out to the edge of the wheel which is why to intake is a pipe to the center of the wheel while output is on the edge. Though the mechanism is somewhat similar, the blower wheel is what create differentiation. Blower motor moves the air around your house. It moves the air across the heat exchanger and the evaporator coil. However, condenser fan motor lets the air flows through the condensing coil to make the hot air blows out across the hot condensing coil.
